about section

Jennifer Joy Creative began in the living room of designer, wife and mom Jay (Jennifer) Lantrip, who started creating wearable art nearly 10 years ago to sell in the vintage clothing store she and her husband, Jason, ran in East Lansing, Mich.

When they decided to sell the store in December 2006, Jay needed a new outlet for her creations and Jennifer Joy Creative was born. Using such organic and sustainable fabrics and fibers as hemp and certified organic cottons, Jennifer Joy Creative chooses high quality materials that support low impact processing and fair labor practices.

Located smack in the middle of the mitten state, in Okemos, Mich., Jay's home is surrounded lush forest and life-sustaining farms that remind her how important it is to take care of our surroundings. All fibers are hand dyed using low impact fiber reactive dyes and minimal water.

A bit about the goodies you'll find here...

Clothing...
All seams are straight stitched, serged and top stitched at the stress points. The appliques have been tightly fused and satin stitched for long wear. Screen printed images in ink have been heat set and can be washed normally. Screen printed images in dye are permanently embedded in the fabric and have been throughly set so you won't get any weird surprises after you do laundry.
Speaking of laundry, all the fabrics have been prewashed in my homemade laundry powder which is extra gentle for your body and the environment!
A note about hand-dyed fabrics: Due to the nature of hand-dyeing, there maybe some slight variation in the color.

Yarn... When Jay needs a break from the sewing machine, she can be found sitting in the sun with her spinning wheel, spinning piles of hand dyed natural fibers into unique yarns. Many of the unpredictable yarns can be found in her shop and, when she just can't wait to find out what it will become, Jay is known to take some of her favorite yarn and knit it up into creations for sale.
All the yarns are washed thoroughly with Eucalan lavender wool wash to set them, remove residual dyes, and make them smell delicious. Each is a one of a kind creation and made with much love...

Jay believes its crucial to be a role model for future generations in being an independant business owner supporting fair trade practices and eco-friendly living.
