Hey everyone, My name is Jay.
I am very excited
to introduce
Jennifer Joy Creative, my own little space on the web to
share my various
creations inspired by all the lovely things around me.
A little bit about me...
Lets see, My real name is Jennifer Joy, but when I was little it turned into JJ, then evolved to Jay. I answer to any or all of them :).
I am a mom of two funny little kids who make me laugh every day. I have been married to the love of my life for 8 years now. We recently sold our vintage clothing store we owned for 6 years. Kinda sad but we are now embarking on a new chapter of our lives! I am now sewing and creating full time (hooray!). I want to thank each and every one of you for visiting my site. You and your support make it possible for me to have a job that I completely love and to be a home with my babies. I am such a lucky girl.
I really enjoy sewing, spinning , gardening, sitting in my back yard, sushi, Indian food, olives, tea, playing with my kids, silk screening, making stuff, music, having a beer with my friends, and high fiving my husband.
I started sewing when I was 7 (I'm 32 now) as a
4-H project. My
grandmother and my mom are both seamstresses so I had
lots of
guidance. I have been sewing for over 20 years now,
selling my
handmade clothing through our vintage store for 6
years and on Ebay
for the last few years with much success.
I strive
to make clothing
that is not only high quality but unique and
flattering as well. I love to find
that one of a kind amazing vintage fabric to use in my
designs.
Keep your eye out for that sweet bit of 60's paisley or
funky 70's
abstract!
My newest obsession is spinning yarn. I am in
love with this craft.
It involves
taking various fibers, dyeing and spinning them into
amazing yarns.
Spinning is exciting and the outcome is always a
pleasant surprise.
Be sure to
check out my handspun section.
About my stuff:
Handmade clothing:
I prewash all my fabrics to avoid shrinkage. All the
seams are serged
and topstitched at the stress points for many moons of
wear.
The
appliques are first bonded, satin stitched and then I
apply fray check
to ensure the design will last and last.
I love to dye fabric. The
handdyed fabric has been washed thoroughly to remove
any dye residue.
I should say, too, that there may be color variation
in the hand-dyed
fabric. I will be sure to mention in the description
if the fabric is
hand-dyed.
Handspun Yarn :
Working with handspun yarn is a whole
different
experience than with commercial yarn. It just feels
good and has a wonderful life to it. I use various wools (mainly Merino and
Blue-Face Leichester), tencel, bamboo, mohair, and a
bunch of other
stuff including fun sparkley materials! I dye all my own fiber. Animal fibers are dyed with acid dyes and the plant fibers are dyed using procion dyes.
All the yarns are washed
thoroughly to set them and remove residual dyes. Each of my yarns is
a one of a kind creation and made with much love...
Thanks for checking out my site. If you have any
